What do porcelain laminated veneers mean?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lamina means \u201ca leaf\u201d in Latin. It is a method in which only the anterior surfaces of the teeth are thinned at 0.3-0.7 mm in distance without cutting the teeth. This is the method causing the least losses of the intact teeth tissue. The procedure is the lamination of these surfaces with porcelain veneers.<\/p>\n<\/div>

In which situations are porcelain laminate veneers applied?<\/strong><\/p>\n

In cases with advanced discoloration of teeth in which the outcomes are insufficient with bleaching,<\/p>\n

In malformed teeth and in teeth with structural defects,<\/p>\n

To join discrete teeth (diastema closure),<\/p>\n

To restore broken or worn-out teeth,<\/p>\n

In the correcting of the old and malformed fillings with structural defects,<\/p>\n

It may be an option close to excellence in the correction of crooked and curved teeth (as an alternative to orthodontic treatment).<\/p>\n

This procedure is not applied to cases with jaw deformities, nail-biting, pen-biting or to cases with advanced gingival recessions.<\/p>\n

If no treatment or cosmetic interventions are required for your gums, you may have a new smile in 2-3 sessions, which means that it will take a week.<\/p>\n

In the first session, the measures of your teeth are taken and the resulting model is studied. Then the teeth are abraded and the measures are taken again with a sensitive measure. At your next appointment, the veneers are applied to your teeth.<\/p>\n

How long is the life of teeth covered with porcelain laminate veneers?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The porcelain laminate veneers can be used for years without problems with good oral care. This is why they are made of porcelain with superior properties than other bonding systems. They are more resistant to staining and abrasion. Careful oral care is needed to prolong their lives. Also, it is necessary to avoid bad habits such as biting very hard food or nail-biting.<\/p>\n

What are the advantages of porcelain laminated teeth?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The desired appearance is achieved with an abrasion process of 0.3-0.7 mm in depth. The average duration of the process is 7-10 days.<\/p>\n

They are made of strong, durable, and discoloration resistant materials.<\/p>\n

The teeth can be laminated with porcelain veneers without changing their natural structures to meet the desired aesthetic features (color, shape, etc). No modification procedures are applied to the teeth at all or they are applied only to a small extent. The amount removed from the tooth is limited to 0.3-0.7 mm in distance. In this way, cutting the teeth will not be needed during the procedure.<\/p>\n

A copy of your teeth, with which you are not happy, is modelled and re-designed. This means that before the teeth are intervened, the planned changes can be demonstrated to the patient at the beginning of the treatment. This demo is called as mock-up.<\/p>\n

The surfaces of the porcelain are smooth, thus, the formation of the discolorations associated with smoking and the formation of dental calculi are minimized.<\/p>\n

It does not change color with external factors like coffee, tea, smoking.<\/p>\n

It is a very fragile material. However, when it fully adheres to the enamel, its resistance to tensile and compressing forces increases to a high extent. For example, it is impossible to take out a fully adhered veneer from the tooth. It can only be removed by abrading the tooth surface with diamond drills.<\/p>\n
