Face and various parts of the body are injected with fat collected from the other parts the individual’s body in order to fill out the specified areas. The most common region of the body, at which the fat injection is performed, is the face. Defined amounts of fat may be injected in order to augment the lips, diminish the deep creases on the sides of the mouth, and to augment the cheekbones and even the mandible to some extent. Fat injection is used commonly to shape the hips and correct depressed areas due to the previously applied liposuction deformities. Some depressed deformities occurring as sequelae of some accidents may be filled out successfully by fat injections.

Fat liposuction is usually performed in the abdomen by special injectors. The waist and hips are the other common areas for liposuction. Following the homogenous liquefaction of some of the transferred fat cells, the remaining 40-50% will be permanent. This is the superiority of the fat injection procedure compared to the filler procedures with hyaluronic acid. If required, the fat injection can be repeated after 6 months.

The fat injection takes about 30-60 minutes. It is possible to perform the procedure under local anesthesia, however, it would be better if it is performed in the operating room conditions. By this way, it will be possible to comfort the patient administering sedatives. Although it is considered to be a simple procedure to perform, the operating environment must be completely sterile as the procedure requires many steps to be processed.

Even if the fat injection is performed under general anesthesia, it does not require hospitalization of the patient allowing for the daily treatment. Resting is advised in the first two days after the procedure as edema and bruising may occur in some areas. The edema will be distributed, reduced and dissolved in time in the days following the surgery. Tissue augmentation procedure with fat injection is a permanent method.
